Resource scarcity

How can we use fewer resources and still accomplish more?

The forest industry utilises renewable resources sustainably. Its processes use the scarce materials and energy carefully and efficiently. Thanks to their recyclability, wood fibre-based materials remain valuable raw materials even after use. Finland has a long tradition of using wood responsibly. Smart and systematic forestry practices will ensure sufficient resources, also in the future.

Wood-based solutions for challenges posed by resource scarcity

Fancy and easy to recycle paperboard packaging for chocolates

Saturating kraft paper suitable for lignin-based resin

Research for the development of fiber-based packaging

Improved dyeability with wood-based textile fiber

Easy-to-recycle pastry box

Recyclable ice cream cups

The amount of wood in Finnish forests is increasing every year. The annual tree growth is nearly 40 million cubic metres more than annual fellings.

From this volume, 20 million cubic meters could be utilised in a sustainable manner for the needs of the bioindustry.
